Brazil beat Ivory Coast 3-1 and stayed in cruise control throughout the match. Luis Fabiano scored twice for Dunga's side before midfielder Elano made it three to seal their place in the second round, although Didier Drogba grabbed a late consolation and Kaka was sent off for a second yellow card.

Well the game really came to life in the second-half with three goals, a controversial red card and bit of a scrap.

Shane Smeltz gave New Zealand their greatest ever result as they held world champions Italy to a 1-1 draw in Group F. The All Whites went ahead early, before being pegged back by a Vincenzo Iaquinta penalty, but the minnows held on to claim an historic point.

A first-half strike from winger Enrique Vera and a late strike from Cristian Riveros saw Paraguay claim a deserved 2-0 victory over Slovakia.
