He was not there but he for sure is still a Red.

Alonso was unable to attend Carra's testimonial due to international commitments.

HOWEVER....

He posted a message tribute to his old pal;

"Carra-dona testimonial today. LFC legend!!
Congratulations mate. Sorry not to make it."

Less words, simple and understand-able yet menusuk kalbu. Read between the lines peeps!

Raul "Woi..tengah padang live-telecast pon nak molest aku ke? Double team lak tu"

Xabi Alonso And Pepe Reina Confident Liverpool Can Beat Real Madrid

Liverpool's Xabi Alonso and Pepe Reina both think that the Merseyside outfit can beat Real Madrid, but while one hopes for an away goal, the other thinks that Steven Gerrard's return is vital.

Xabi Alonso believes that Liverpool have to score at Real Madrid to give themselves a good chance of winning the Champions League tie, although he thinks though the Spanish outfit are better at the back under Juande Ramos.

The Reds' playmaker knows exactly what los Merengues have to offer and recognised that an away goal in the Bernabeu could be crucial to the English team's chances of triumphing.

Liverpool travel to Madrid for the first leg next week and already the two sides are beginning to look ahead to the fixture. Alonso seems confident.

"For us it is important that we score in the Bernabeu because it would give us something [to defend] in the second game. It gives us a greater chance to go through," he told Radio Marca.

"If we do not score then it could limit us for the return leg because, if we then concede at home, it will make things very difficult.

"I think it will be a very even tie and a great one to watch for the fans.

"Madrid have improved a lot defensively under Juande. They now concede fewer goals and that has certainly given us something to think about.

"But we have good players and we expect to score and go through."

Pepe Reina was also present with Alonso and he feels that things could be cagey as both sides know how to defend very well.

"I do not think that there will be many goals in the tie," he explained. "I am sure that they [los Blancos] are in great form and it will be difficult to score against them.

"It will be very tight with few chances and the games will be decided by [small] details. Both teams are better at defending than attacking."

Steven Gerrard is facing a race to be fit for the first game and Reina hopes that the Liverpool captain makes it back in time to play.

"He will be doubtful until close to the game,” the goalkeeper added. “We hope that he recovers in time because he is a player that can win games.

"I believe that he is not only one of the best players at Liverpool but also in world football."

Arsenal eye Alonso

Alan Hansen may have been horribly wrong in his assessment all those years ago, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger , having championed his kids for so long, finally appears to have come round to the Scotsman's school of thought.

Arsenal have struggled for consistency so far this season, a fault has been attributed to a lack of experience in the side, particularly in midfield where fellow team-mates have even started tackling each other in dying moments of games.

Wenger may be one of Fabregas's fans but the Gunners boss has realised his new captain, just 21, needs a helping hand from a more experienced sidekick in the middle of the park.

Enter Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.

Wenger is a keen admirer of the Spain international; the Gunners would have snapped him up last summer if it were not for Aston Villa's refusal to allow Gareth Barry to go to Anfield.

But having continued to impress this season, and with Liverpool still interested in Barry, Wenger is preparing to make another bid for Alonso once the transfer window opens in January. The Daily Mirror claims a fee of £12 million should be enough to tempt Rafa Benitez to part with his countryman.

Alonso Distances Himself Further Away From Juventus

Liverpool's Xabi Alonso has distanced himself further away from a move to Juventus by insisting that he wants to remain at Anfield to win the Premier League. The Old Lady has been keen on the Spanish international but they have failed to reach an agreement with the Merseysiders over his fee.

The Reds have held out for as long as possible in an attempt to scupper interest from the Serie A giants and it seems to have worked as Alonso has declared that he wants to stay in England.

“Everyone treats me so well here,” said Alonso.

“There are a few stories over a possible transfer but I would prefer not to talk about my future.

“I want to win the Premier League as that is the only trophy which is missing.”

Reports claim that the Bianconeri had offered €20.5m for the midfielder and it seems as if that is going to be their final offer.

The Italian club have started to look elsewhere for a midfielder and thus Alonso’s move to Serie A is moving further away as time goes by.

Liverpool ready to sell Alonso

Juventus have revealed they are in talks to sign Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, and will meet the player's agent on Wednesday afternoon.

Club president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli warned, however, that Juve have not agreed a fee, and they are known to be reluctant to match Liverpool's £15 million valuation of the player.

The Serie A side signed fellow Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Sissoko in January and have now set their sights on the 26-year-old Alonso, who was one of Rafa Benitez's first signings when he arrived at Anfield in 2004.

However, the Spaniard, who will represent his country at Euro 2008, has found himself marginalised by the emergence of Steven Gerrard and Javier Mascherano as Benitez's first-choice central midfield pairing.

"It looks like his representative will arrive today," Gigli said. "We can't deny that we're interested, but there's always the problem of getting value for money.

Bye bye Alonso...thanks 4 ur role...we hope you still with us...
