KL Skankin' Fest 2010 Part before two - Another cheap review from an idiot called KeCiK

"hahah gua keje dude...cuti tingal pat hari jek..stock gig bulan lapan nanti..."
"ghua ada family day la kecik ~"

"tgh berehat2 di umah..hihi"
"cannnot go..ko tlong go kan tok aku"

Lebih 10 orang aku ajak gi Ska Fest nih tapi hampeh, sorang je sangkut. Takpe, ada can kita ber-skankin lagi. Lucky me, Safiq Razak, nicknamed as Mamat [suka team dengan gua time main galah panjang kecik-kecik dulu] was there to skankin' wtih me on that day. Terimalah virtual high five dari aku mat.

It's written '1.00PM' onwards on the flyer. So I told mamat to get ready by 11.30am. "Ekau lambek memang kono tinggal ngan den". Mangkuk ni sempat lagi gi gunting rambut walaupun dah masuk injury time. Ko ingat aku Ferguson ke leh mintak injury time lama-lama? Mamat segera menyarungkan jersi AC/DC bersertakan kasut N Sport bundle baru beli maka bergegas la kami berdua menuju ke KTM dengan kelam-kelibut. As always, EX5 kesayangan aku bertindak seperti Ferrari bawaan Schumacher semasa era beliau masih terer lagi. Sampai Sentral,as usual since it was already 1.30pm, Zuhur comes first in mind. Runner-runner ke RapidKL, tekan-tekan skrin touch skrin ke Masjid Jamek.

KeCiK - Weh, kalo nak g muzium telekom tu brenti kat stesen mane?
Ems - Star LRT Masjid Jamek. :) Berminatkah?
KeCiK - I am so berminat. Sabtu ni on 26th ada ska fest la kak.Ingat nak turun.

Ems - Ingatkan nak buat rombongan sekolah adik2. hee~ Tp, ska fest tu kat muzium telekom tu ker? biau betul?

KeCiK - Venue tertulis tmpoint muzium sebelah menara olympia..tu yg kehairanan aku,apa lak gig buat kt muzium..
Ems - Owh.. muzium tu kecik jer.. xla besar mana. tp situ mmg hq tmpoint kott. dekat ng menara maybank gak. :)

In the map, it looks like it is near Masjid Jamek station it is quite far. Pukul 2 kami sampai, 'bang dah bole msk ke? start bila?' dalam kul 2.30 start lah dik' I waited for an hour after that but still, NOTHING. 'Takpe lah mat, kita melantak lah dulu kat mamak' kata si KeCiK kepada sahabatnya Mamat yang seakan-akan sungguh eager untuk berskankin'.

Yeah! Dah start pon. Aik !? Apahal depan stage TAK ADA ORANG !? Rupanya crowd yang ramai lebih selesa melayan perfomance at that time dengan gaya santai iaitu bersila mahupun duduk bersimpuh. Aku ngan mamat pon cari port, lepak tepi. Ilimitado tengah perform. Habis satu lagu, tak boleh jadi nih. Takkan layan sambil duduk, sopan sangat.

Aku dengan tanpa rasa segan silu mara ke depan stage bersama beberapa orang. Layan. Kami belum mampu berpogo, show belum panas. So most of us only did some head-banging ciput-ciput only. Ehh..Illimitado bawak lagu cover song lah ! This song is so fuckin' familiar with me. The song is I'll Be Here Awhile by 311. Apa lagi, aku sing-a-long la sorang-sorang depan stage.

Gambar dicilok dari page KL Skankin Fest itu sendiri. NgehNgeh. TQ.

Next, Sharpshooter. Band ni aku pernah aku tengok jauh-jauh sayup masa Rock The World 8. Pernah sekali tengok kat TV dalam rancangan Jozan while performing Panji-panji Reggae. Main vocalist lambat sampai sampai brader-brader from Deck from Coca D Monday dengan Crown Hill terpaksa cover first two songs for Sharpshooter. Dia sesat kot.

Sambil sedap melayan cover song from Bob Marley - Could You Be Loved, terpacak lah dengan magiknya vokalis utama Sharpshooter, crowd pon kembali menggila, actually tak gila sangat lah, saja nak sedapkan ayat. This cover song gets another fword-ing awesome from me.

One of them scream out loud to the crowd "Korang bayar rm20 tapi lepak kat belakang wat pe? Meh la depan sikit woi !"

Eh !? Apsal kaler-kaler nih? Yes! The next band is called 40 Winks, im not sure where the name comes from. The hell we care. Here's a bit info regarding 40 Winks. I got it from their FB. 40 Winks, an eleven piece Ska Band from Malaysia !!! Combining all kinds of music elements from Jazz, Latin & Malaysian Traditional Music with Ska Punk Rock Music.Gila awesome diorang nih. Their performance on that day ? Sungguh harmoni. Ada brader skinhead sebelah aku bertanya "baru balik bengkel ke bang ?" Haha.

Ezza - Vocals
Bijan - Guitar & Vocals
Yus - Lead Guitarist
Chewan - Bass & Vocals
Adam - Keyboard Organ & Vocals
Anul - Drums
Ayid - Alto Sax & Vocals
Ketapunk - Tenor Sax
Panjang - Trumpet
Wid - Trumpet
Aidilie - Trombone

After that we had performance from JCL (Johny Comes Lately). Im not familiar about this band but I have to say that they are like POH (Plague of Happiness). Sejibik ! Standard la KeCiK, nama pon influence. Haha, nama pon Ska Punk, mesti la laju kan? Yup, sangat-sangat laju. Intro dijadikan warm-up untuk mereka dan kami dibawah yang bersedia untuk ber-skankin ke tahap yang lebih extreme. Here's a bit info bout this JCL band. Macam biasa, aku cilok dari FB diorang. Tak payah susah-susah taip kan?

"Ok korang dengar sini, aku start tiup je kita lompat sama-sama setinggi boleh k !" "You can count on me man!"

JohnyComesLately emerged from the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur trying to salvage the pride of Ska, Punk and Reggae in our community with the other bands parading the same type of music. JCL who can be considered as an avid Ska Punk and Reggae band since early 2007, are newcomers to the wonderful scene. JCL are also influenced by the melodious ska/punk and reggae beats of their Japanese ska and Jamaican reggae idols.

JCL tee+EP=rm30. Sori bang tak dapat beli, bawak duit cukup-cukup je.

JCL managed to release their first single in early 2008 which was called “Johny” and also played their first gig in One CafĂ© called “Tribute to Bob Marley”. Their first single raised some eyebrows and received various comments on and off stage after being played. JCL also had successfully covered some songs from their idols Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, Goldfinger and Catch 22. Here, they also have covered namely the famous song by The Alleycats called “Di Tengah Kota”.

JCL practically started with Abby (The Silent 4 and Hoarse Voices), Bijat (Ups and Downstrokes), Dex (Hot Shot Trumps) and Dzafeer (Snares and Thuderbolts) during their first few months. There were a few changes in their line up namely Abah(Slides and Glides) and Reshad (Slides and Glides) who joined and left due to some unforeseen circumstances. It was until a few months later when Dane Solo (Tenor and the Insurgents), Aafiat (Alto and the Melodies) and latest Alief (Hot Shot Trumps) joined them. Dex then moved from Trumpets to Trombones to complete the ultimate 7 members of JCL.

Next performer was Rosewood. Are they some part or related with tree or wood-wood stuff!? Sungguh wrong sama sekali. The first time I listen to their song was few years ago. It was damn early in the morning..tengah layan RedRott.fm bersama Abg Rom. "Hari ni kita ada cover song from Rosewood. This time, they will cover a song from ACAB which is Bersama Semula" What !? Bersama Semula in reggae ? Gila interesting.

Ada jugak band-band lain buat cover song ACAB, macam lagu Unfairground. Tapi aku lupa sapa yang cover, yang aku ingat Rosewood ni je lah. Haha lagi. Sory thousand-thousand wahai Rosewood, kami tak sempat layan lu oll, time tu Asar dah masuk. Pusing dua-tiga-empat kali gak cari surau. Awesome+Alhamdulillah, dekat je, 2nd floor. Aku sempat snap gambar-gambar Rosewood time diorang perform dari atas.

Rosewood was formed in early 2002, they started to get serious after they won one of battle of the band organised by Kajai College UKM Bangi. Then they recorded first Demo call "kembang-kempis" in the same years. Their first Ep just release few years ago call "Reggae Cinta".

The next runner was Skudap Skudip. Another band yang sungguh tidak asing lagi di cuping-cuping telinga penggemar lagu berentak ska+reggae. Skudap Skudip, I have to say that their name is so-user-friendly macam Window XP. Dalam banyak band setakat ni, I have to say that they were the best ! It's not that the others were not-so-best but you guys should look at the crowd. Menggila ! Paling gila bila diorang bawak lagu Skalala.

First few bands the crowd were just skankin individually but for this time we were skankin together. TOGETHER bai ! It's not a regular mosh pit but this time we had a great time doing ska-pit. Paling syok half of the crowd joined and do the train. Gila ramai. Aku makin gila bila diorang bawak lagu cover Monkey Man. It was fword-ing awesome + bloody awesome dari saya. Ore Ska Band pon ada cover jugak lagu nih tapi aku ingat Skudap Skudip lagi feel since they performed it LIVE!

Born in 2004, SKUDAP SKUDIP brings a new waves of sound in the music arena. Came all the way from Royal Town Klang,Malaysia, we've bring new waves of ska with a mixture of ska, punk, rock & roots. It's all started with a bunch of guys playing the music they love such as ska, reggae, punk, rock & roots.. Then we wrapped it up all the genre's in one simple yet adventurous package and called ourselves SKUDAP SKUDIP...

Established independently in 2004, been playing in small and big gigs or events and are well discovered in underground Malaysia music scene..

In 2008, SKUDAP SKUDIP have recorded our 1st EP called "MENGAPA KENAPA" and we're SOLD OUT..

And in July 2009, we've came out with our 1st album called "BUKAN SUDU BUKAN SUDIP" and it is selling fast...

Currently, we are in the process of making our new single called "Fobia Bercinta"... So watch out guys... It's gonna be ready soon....

Berskakin sambil lupa diri. Sekejap je. Tu yang topeng otromen tu gua lah.

Stop right now, tengkiu very much. Dah macam lagu Spice Gilrs, memang pon. This ska fest took a break just after perfomance from Skudap Skudip. It's near Maghrib, no wonder. Hari sudah gelap tapi show makin panas. Time to take a break, I will continue in the next part of this cheap review.

Dah lama-lama baru aku perasan, kitorang ter-miss Crown Hill. Have no fear, click on this link to visualize their performance.

p/s : "Beb, jam dengan spek ko tertinggal lah dalam toilet" kata brader Jaber from JCL. Patut la ringan je tangan ngan muka aku. Sebagai membalas jasa brader Jaber, aku pon meng-offer-kan diri menjadi imam time solat Maghrib. Special thanks to Maya360 for all the awesome 360 pictures.

Next part shortly after this !
